Lego Club

Lego Club meets once a week during each grade levels’ lunch recess. Students have the opportunity to build, create and play with Legos. This is a great time for children to also gain play skills such as sharing, turn taking and working as a team.

SDES Student in garden

Sunrise Garden

Our students observe, investigate, and research in the school garden with their classmates. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grade plant warm and cool weather crops. In the Fall, the students plant red and orange beets and carrots, mixed lettuce, spinach, and kale. Some classes plant broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussel sprouts. The students harvest and share the bounty with their families. The students plant crops in the Spring that will be enjoyed at the beginning of the following year, such as pumpkin, squash, corn and sunflowers. Our student gardeners benefit from partnerships with our Family & Faculty Organization and Tucson Community Gardens. The two groups support our students by providing seeds, seedlings, and equipment, in addition to countless volunteer hours and expertise. The FFO Garden Chairs facilitate Garden Club for our students who enjoy additional time in the garden.

Sunrise Steppers

Sunrise Steppers is a program that encourages Sunrise students and staff to get out and walk or run together for exercise and for fun. Available at lunch recess once each week during the cooler months of the year, children are given index cards that are punched every time they do a lap on the field, and when they've accumulated enough laps to equal a mile, they receive a sneaker token for their tennis shoes. This program has grown in popularity because of the enthusiasm and support of staff and parent volunteers (and a little friendly competition between grades as to which one will finish with the most miles), and Sunrise is proud to see the excitement in the children for getting out to walk or run with their friends!
